November 1, 2008
Be sure to make all checks out to Lakeshore Youth Program.
Mid-Valley USBC Youth has been given kiosk space at AMF to put up a Albany Youth Bowling board. It is being used to promote youth bowling as well as be a place where you can easily get tournament entry forms and other information. I am also looking to our Youth Leaders to keep it looking fresh with inexpensive decorating ideas.

Almost time to get the league started again. We have had a little hiccup at the start of the season this year but it is not a major issue. We did not plan on having a "Registration Party" however Linda strongly suggested we have one. Do to the Labor Day weekend coming up really soon we decided to wait and do it the first weekend in September instead of starting league. So Youth bowlers free bowling and food the first day. You cannot beat that. We are also learning that we Tangent plans a Harvest Festival the first Saturday of September so we will plan on not starting league until the second weekend of the month. Here is the preliminary coaching lineup Cliff Meredith - every week; Harry Renouf - one Saturday a month; Linda Imperio and Chris Breashear as their schedules allow. I am really looking forward to building on what we started last year. See you on September 6th for the party. The party starts at 9:30am.

We made it through the Strawberry Festival. What a crowd. We severely under estimated the amount of candy we brought but the purpose of the float was to promote Youth bowling and I think we did just that. Chris Meyer is already sketching out next years float so we will be returning next year, at least that is what we are anticipating.
I hope all the youth bowlers had a good time at the Association Banquet. I apologize for the seating issue but I told them we would have a good representation. They may have to find a bigger venue for next year. I really enjoyed the opportunity of showing the rest of the association that we have a great group of kids participating in the youth program.
I hope to have the In-League scholarship online next week. The Lakeshore Youth Program Officers will be meeting at Lakeshore this Saturday 10am to go over the application. When we concluded the league last year there was enough money left over from fundraising to give out a scholarship to each of the three youth divisions. We are also looking at a league signup application that will be online as well.
Last but not least. Laura Clair is running a fundraiser at AMF Albany Lanes this Saturday June 14th starting at 1pm. The cost is $15 for 3 games of bowling, shoes and donation. She is raising money to offset her expenses to represent Oregon in the 2008 Pepsi Championships. She is also runnign a car wash at Scooters Wholesale on Pacific Blvd in Albany on Saturday June 28th.
June 4, 2008 2007-08 Recap
I am wore out. I never realized how draining this year was going to be when I said I would take it all on. Let me start by saying it was a great year for youth bowling in Albany. The kids at Lakeshore just were great and succeeded on so many different levels. Whether is was Grand Prix competition or the Pepsi Tournament or even the State Youth Championships, scholarships abound. Great Job to all of you. I want to acknowledge the efforts from AMF Albany Lanes youth bowlers. It takes special kids to deal with all that was going on around the center last year. I think the next season will be a the start of a great come back.
In this section, I want to address the Lakeshore Youth Program. It is easy as I sit here to think of all my screw ups this year and where I could have been better. I want to thank all the parents that were there week in and week out. I also want to thank the parents that came to me with their concerns and issues that I sometimes could not address because it was not within my scope of influence. I think we have a great set of parents helping to run the program next year and I hope to build upon what we accomplished this year.
In this section, I want to address the Mid-Valley USBC Youth Committee. It sucks being on this commitee. The committee is made up of 2 adults and 2 youths. It sure did not act like a committee in that youths failed to show up for the meetings and the other adult did participate on occasion. We were supposed to represent youth bowlers at the Board meetings giving us 4 votes but I was the only one who attended regularly. I was flying blind as a bat all year and trying to bring some structure to this committee and I get to continue for another term.
PARENTS:
I want to close this entry with a message for you. Lebanon, Corvallis and Albany have bowling youth programs and each has its merits and demerits. I do not care where your children bowl as long as they feel empowered to do so. If some of you feel like moving on to another program from Lakeshore remember to check the website so you can stay up on all the youth activities that you may not find out about elsewhere.
Last thing, Strawberry Festival happening 6/7/08 in Lebanon. We have a cool float entered. Check out the pictures on the Strawberry Festival tab.
May 18, 2008
Wow, another week has passed and time for some announcements. Yesterday May 17th, 2 youth bowlers showed up for the bowling clininc at Lakeshore. I also understand the price has been changed to $6.00. So if you want to get some special instruction come on down to Lakeshore the 24th. I want to thank Chris and Vicki Meyer. They have been very generous in allowing us to invade their home the past several Saturdays to work on the float. They have been leading the team and forging ahead as some of us have drugged our feet. Without them I do not think we would have an entry into the Strawberry Festival. I received the money for the entry from the Mid-Valley USBC Association and I will mail it in this week.

Check out the Strawberry Festival link. We have started building the float and everyone's help is appreciated. Do not forget Bowling Clinic begins May 17th at Lakeshore see April 20th announcement. We are in the process of raising funds to get Laura Clair to the 2008 Pepsi Championships in Detroit, MI. Laura will be representing the State of Oregon in the tournament in the Girls 12 and over Handicap Division.

I have talked with Harry Renouf and Chris Breshears and the they will be running their Bowling Clinic starting May 17th. I think the start time is 10am and the last time I heard the cost will be $7.00 a week.
I am pleased to announce the planned coaching staff for the 2008-09 season. In a rotating basis will be Linda Imperio, Chris Breshears and Harry Renouf. Harry brings a wealth of bowling knowledge to the program. He coaches the West Albany High School Girls team, teaches bowling classes for LBCC and he plans to coach the LBCC team if tyhe paperwork ever gets completed. I will continue to be there every week to coach.
